Leaves are the food producers of the tree. Leaves have cells with chloroplasts that contain a green pigment called chlorophyll.
Chlorophyll is the primary leaf pigment that absorbs the sunlight. The energy of the sun is collected in the chloroplasts where in a reaction called photosynthesis it is converted to a chemical energy in the form of a carbohydrate. This is the food of the tree. If the leaves of your tree aren’t getting enough sun it may cause die back of parts of the canopy. You can have us come out and trim surrounding trees to help allow more sun into your landscape.
