Rust in another common problem affecting our local plant life. Unlike Fire Blight, Rust Disease is caused by a fungal infection rather than bacteria. The leaves are most commonly affected by this disease and cause a brown “rust like” color to form. Rust should be treated by clearly raking the leaves from infected plants as soon as they fall. Also apply a fungicide to infected trees until the signs of rust are gone.
